Streets:

Paramount to Santana Row is the creation of an environment that attracts extended and routine visits by the customer. Central to the creation of Santana Row was to establish a dynamic retail experience of international, national and local profile. This offers the customer a shopping experience that is unmatched in character and diversity. Alan Hess states, “Santana Row is enlightened commercialism-commerce that realizes it does its best when it is part of the daily life of shopping, relaxing and doing business.” National and international retail tenant examples are Anne Fontaine, Gucci, Salvatore Ferragamo, St John, Escada, BCGB, Bottega Veneta, Burberry, Wolford, Ted Baker, Tod's, Tayrn Rose, Crate and Barrel and Sur La Table. One-of-a-kind and local retail tenant examples are, Cou Paris, Fiona, Mulholland San Francisco, Poggesi Italian Home Style, Lather, Optical Illusions, Maido and Burke Williams to name a few. The restaurant dinning experience provides a broad range of lounge and dinning such as Amber India, Blowfish Sushi, Cazuelas, Left Bank, CreAsian, Straits Café, Village Café, Maggiano's Little Italy, and Yankee Pier. Nearly fifty percent of the over one hundred tenants are local merchants and restaurateurs establishing both depth in the shopping and culinary experience and unique retail character.

Complimented by tall, narrow and individual storefront designs, Santana Row's main street provides to the customer, a place to shop daily in a one-of-a-kind experience. Tayrn Rose states , “I thought Santana Row was a fantastic vision, and I wanted to be part of such a revolutionary place.” The retailers inhabit the sidewalks with tables and chairs, flowers, music and merchandise. The parks establish venues for farmer's markets and entertainment as well as refuge from a highly active street environment. Art and artifacts are present in almost every corner of the neighborhood, many of them historic restorations and original art forms reinforcing the unique character of place. Alan Hess of the San Jose Mercury news states, “The master plan is a wonder of subtle proportions and detailed scale. In a manner both pragmatic and sensitive, the planners weave together a remarkable variety of spaces, from the ample boulevard to small side streets and squares.” Although there is a great deal of focus on the fundamentals of great street building such as; dimension, connection, place and variety, the complexity and integration of all facets of consideration make Santana Row a place with an original voice and a sense of authenticity that has been enthusiastically received by both customers and residents of the community.
